This past weekend, the Division 2 Mudturtles hosted the Rochester Aardvarks in the first round of the Empire GU playoffs. Both teams were greeted with beautiful weather as they took the field during the afternoon. The Aardvarks were quick to strike, as miscues from the Mudturtles allowed two tries to the visiting side, putting the score at 12-0. However, once the rust was shaken off, the Mudturtles came back hard, with Hunter Lostan rumbling in for two tries and Captain Andy Brown in for a third before the half closed, placing the Mudturtles in the lead 17-12. Rochester opened the second half with a penalty kick for three additional points, putting them two away from tying the match. However, within the next minute, substitute Mike Ehrlich scored and converted his own try, widening the gap. Ehrlich would add a second try to his tally, and Kevin Menyhart added a try of his own to the score sheet. In the final closing moments, Rochester scored a try. The final score of the match: Union 38 - Rochester 22.

The Mudturtles host the second round of playoffs next week at home against New York Rugby Club.
